LG 화학 인도참사 책임 묻고, 재발방지제도 만들자.
반올림 활동가, 아시아모니터리소스센터의 미얀마출신 활동가, 가습기살균제 가족피해자, 한국석면추방네트워크 활동가와 지질학전문가, 환경보건시민센터 활동가와 운영위원 등이 참석해 일곱번째 이재명정부에바란다 기자회견을 열었다. 주제는 한국기업이 해외활동에서 일으키는 환경오염과 주민,노동자 건강 인명피해에 대한 책임을 촉구하고 재발방지를 위한 제도마련을 요구하는 내용이었다.
특히 5년전 LG화학 인도공장에서 발생한 발암물질 스티렌 818톤의 누출로 인한 주민사망 참사의 책임을 촉구했다. 이재명정부가 내세우는 '먹사니즘'과 '실용정부'에서 기업의 역할은 매우 중요할 것이다. 당연한 흐름이다. 그러나 기업활동은 어디까지나 사회적책임을 전제로 한다. 기업활동 과정에서 주민, 소비자 그리고 노동자를 보호하는 것은 기본적인 책무다. 오늘의 기자회견은 바로 그러한 기본적인 책무를 강조했다.

The seventh press conference was held with the participation of activists from SHARPS, Myanmar-born activists from the Asia Monitor Resource Center, victims of humidifier disinfectant families, activists from Ban Asbestos Network Korea, geology experts, activists from Eco-Health, and operating committee members. The topic was to demand that Korean companies take responsibility for environmental pollution caused by overseas activities and for the health and lives of residents and workers, and to establish systems to prevent recurrence.
In particular, they demanded responsibility for the disaster that killed residents due to the leak of 818 tons of carcinogenic styrene at the LG Chemical India plant five years ago. The role of corporations will be very important in the 'food-based' and 'practical government' promoted by the Lee Jae-myung government. It is a natural trend. However, corporate activities are always based on social responsibility. Protecting residents, consumers, and workers in the process of corporate activities is a basic responsibility.
