Off the Circuit (Subtitle: The Words, Lives, and Dreams of Semiconductor
Occupational-Disease Survivors) is an oral history collection that records the life stories of fifteen people affected by occupational diseases in the semiconductor industry. Over the course of about eight months, six interviewers met with the survivors and bereaved families, conducted in-depth interviews, and shaped them into a single volume. This record differs notably from the narratives that SHARPS has previously shared. It is a story of pain, yet also a story of dreams, hope and love. It is a deeply personal, yet profoundly social story at the same time. Please read the stories of those who courageously offered their voices—so that no one else will ever suffer the same harm again. We couldn’t translate the entire book, but we are sharing selected excerpts translated from each chapter.
