The large letters say, “Samsung: take responsibility for accidents and stop outsourcing risks!”
The groups issued a statement at the press conference with these three main points:
- Samsung should take responsibility for the methanol poisoning and issue an apology.
- Samsung should support victims to recover from damage, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.

The poisoning occurred during a series of reports by a Korean investigative news organization, Newstapa, about Samsung’s mismanagement and environmental violations in Vietnam based on the testimony of a former manager of Environmental Health and Safety at Samsung Vietnam who stepped forward as a whistleblower. SHARPS, CGFED and IPEN issued a press release about this issue and have been pushing media to report on the remarkable findings.
The reporting is an excellent example of how to conduct this sort of investigation. The have released 4 reports and will release a fifth one soon.
